How does it work?

This app works on the assumption that all electricity recharges are split equally among the 4 roommates. No matter who recharges for what amount, as long as it’s divided equally on Splitwise then it should be a fair calculation.

Here are the variables used in calculating the function:
Total electricity consumed, in units = Grid Units Consumed = x
Total electricity consumed, in rupees = Grid Amount Consumed + Total VCAP + Grid Fixed Charges = y
Electricity consumed by all rooms, in units = Room 1 (a) + Room 2 (b) + Room 3 (c) + Room 4 (d)
Commonly consumed electricity, in units = y - (a + b + c + d) = e
Avg. price of electricity per unit = y / x = z
Here’s the function used to determine consumption per room:
Consumption of Room 1, in rupees = (a + e/4) * z

Since the average unit cost of electricity is dynamic, based on consumption slab, we calculate our own unit average every cycle based on total consumption. UPPCL app only gives Grid amount consumed and Grid unit consumed for each historic month (and to date for the current month), hence it is recommended to calculate the bill cycle for whole month(s).
